This adventure takes place in Akrotiri, the land of the myth of the Lost Atlantis. For those unfamiliar, there was also a settlement from an advanced civilization in Akrotiri, destroyed by a volcano eruption 1.500 years B.C. According to the theories, these ruins might be the City of Atlantis, having vanished from the surface around the same period of time.

During the walk, we can mentally reconstruct the ruins of that city, populated once by more than 30,000 people.  The landscape is gorgeous all the way up to the lighthouse: Full of hidden spots once covered by the volcanic ashes and definitely the most stunning viewpoints. You will be able to observe and understand the geological environment, the volcanic activity throughout history and the breathtaking landscape along the steep cliff of the Caldera.

To all the passionate souls out there, for those hiking lovers and to anyone seeking for the most authentic experience: This adventure is designed especially for you and we are more than ready to meet everyone who shares the same passions that we have. Join us on a trip through history, fantasy and modern times.

We will start our hiking tour at the Square of Akrotiri Village (see map) from where we will take an ancient path that connects the village to the beach. Here, we will take a traditional boat and head towards Mavro Vouno (Black Mountain) while enjoying the magnificent views of the red, white and black beach. These three beaches are geographically very close but look totally different from each other. It’s really amazing to see.

After our 15 minute trip along the blue cobalt Aegean Sea, we will continue hiking through the mountains to the most southerly point of the island: The lighthouse. It is considered as one of the oldest in Greece, dating back from 1892. The place is peaceful and the views are incredible! We can even spot the secret Indian Face (But don’t share with everyone cause it’s kind of a secret).

From the Lighthouse, we will head to Faros Market, a traditional shop fill with love and locally sourced products. Here you can taste some of the local flavours, such as jams, cheeses, traditional Greek coffee or homemade wine; or you are welcome also to spend some time petting their donkeys.

After visiting Faros and charging the batteries, we will continue towards Mesa Pigadia Beach, wandering through the ancient paths of Akrotiri, old vineyards and splendid vistas. From there we will walk towards the red beach (That we saw initially from the boat) and continue towards the Archeological site of Akrotiri. This is our last stop, but we highly recommend to check the place out. Maybe after some lunch at the Cave of Nikolas, it will be just perfect to end the adventure!
