The landscape along this walk is absolutely gorgeous, and also one of the most special in terms of history and fantasy and here is why: Did you know there is a connection between the island of Thira (Santorini) and the myth of the Lost Atlantis, one of the most famous legends in the world?

Well, on the island there was also a settlement from an advanced civilization, destroyed by a volcano eruption 1.500 years B.C. According to the theories, these ruins might be the City of Atlantis, which also vanished from the surface around the same period of time. All along the walk, we will wander through the ancient paths of the Atlantis myth. We like to imagine that this is a walk through history, fantasy and modern times.

Once gathered at our meeting point in the centre of Akrotiri, we will begin our adventure towards the ancient paths of the myth of Atlantis. The trails cross Akrotiri where we will observe the Venetian castle that is in the highest part of the town.

From there we can have a general view of the landscape, which is the protagonist of the myth of the lost city of Atlantis, as well as the covered ruins of the ancient Minoan civilization discovered in Akrotiri.

Through the old roads, we will cross beautiful landscapes, composed by the famous vineyards that characterize the island, and by the terraces in the mountains that have been used throughout history for agriculture and livestock. Afterwards, we will cross windmills and mysterious caves which will drive us to the beach of Mesa Pigadia, where we will enjoy a delicious snack.

From there, we will continue towards the impressive geological formation of the red beach, whose path will allow us to observe from the top the white beach and the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea. Later, we will continue our walk passing through the Archaeological Center and towards the centre of Akrotiri, where we will finish the tour.
